Perth's very own pinup queen, burlesque artist, producer, & blogger.
With today’s blog I’m answering a question put forward to me on Facebook by the ever lovely Shannon of PMD Photography, the same question I’m asked on a daily basis, do I dress pinup full-time and for those interested in pinup styling do they need to dress up all the time?
To answer the first part of this question, I do dress pinup all day, everyday. Even on days where I work from home I’ll always have my hair in victory rolls, and be wearing a vintage styled outfit. For me pinup is very much a lifestyle, and I adore every aspect of this. A lot of people might think that dressing up requires a lot of time and effort, but there are plenty of ways to achieve an authentic look with little time. There’s also so much fun you can have being creative with your hair, makeup and clothing. I feel when you’re very passionate for something, its worth the time you invest and you’ll always have fun with it.
For the second part of this question, for people interested in dressing in the pinup style there’s no law that you need to be dressed up all the time, it differs person to person how they like to dress, what style of pinup they’d like dress as (modern, classic, alternative or anything else) and how they wish to incorporate this into their wardrobe. Some people like to include elements of pinup into their styling, for instance victory rolls with indie fashion, others like to dress up on the weekend as a pinup girl and
some will be in full vintage glamour all the time. No matter how you dress, it’s completely up to you, do what makes you most happy and forget about the “haters”. In saying all of this, the more you practice, the better you’ll get, pinup is such a precise style when wanting to achieve an authentic look, especially if you’re looking into becoming a professional pinup. A lot of people who try pinup hair styling for the first time will not get it right, and more often than not give up at this point, I’ve been practicing since I was 14-years-old, and it took me years of experimenting to get where I am today. Never stop trying achieve new things, and never give up, you have to keep pushing ahead and I promise one day you’ll get it right.
If you have a question regarding anything to do with burlesque, pinup or vintage lifestyle I’d love to hear from you, and hopefully answer your question in blog form.
