Miss Lady Lace; Perth Pinup Queen, Burlesque Artist, Producer, & Blogger.
Each month I feature a pinup model from the past or present that inspires me so; I love to share their beautiful photographs, life stories, and the success they have. I hope to share with some of you possibly a pinup you haven’t heard of, or remember why you loved that pinup to start with, or for those who only getting into pinup, hopefully these pinups will inspire you the way they do me. I’m hoping in August to extend this idea to featured pinup artists of month, and also featured burlesque artists of the month!
For July I have chosen a lady you don’t hear to often when listing classic pinup models, but she was incredibly talented and very successful and is regarded as America’s first supermodel! This month’s featured pinup is the incredibly beautiful Betty Brosmer!
Betty was born on the 2nd of August 1935 in Pasadena, California. She began her career modelling for a lot of commercial projects locally, working up to national level. Before the age of 20 she had already won over 50 beauty contests! Her face appeared in countless full-page adverts in such publications as Time, Life, Look, and other popular magazines of that time.
Betty possessed the ultimate hourglass figure with her measurements being 38-18-36 (inches). She went on to have her face on over 300 magazines and book covers, countless album covers, hundreds of calendars, billboards all across the country, and had cutouts in retail stores for countless adverts all over the country.
Betty became one of the highest paid models of her time, and one of the first models ever to own the copyright to her photos. Her success was limitless.
During her modeling career she was a big part of the women’s health and fitness movement, which she soon came to focus her work on. Her and her husband Joe Weider wrote several books on health and bodybuilding, and foundered the International Federation of Bodybuilders. Betty also co-foundered Shape Magazine a health and fitness publication for women, and still actively writes columns today. Betty is a true role model for both pinup and healthy living, she has lead a successful life in positive light, and is a tremendous inspiration for pinups today.
