Pinup Tutorial: Poodle Fringe
Good afternoon lovelies!
Today I’m putting together a photo tutorial on how to style a basic poodle fringe. This is a method I’ve created myself, which is best suited for longer hair; though it can be applied to short hair too.
For this style you will need:
- Hair spray.
- Hair Pins.
- Alligator clips.
- Hot curlers (or other curler method)
- Hot curler clips (used to hold hot curlers in place)
- A brush.
- And a dividing comb
Step One:
Section out your hair, and style the back, and sides, leaving a fringe section pinned out of the way at the front to create the poodle fringe. For this style I’d typically curl the back of my hair (click here for this tutorial), and create two side victory rolls (click here for this tutorial) either side of what is soon to be my poodle fringe, I have ballet in a couple hours, so my hair is in a simple bun with two side victory rolls.
Back and side sections are now styled, “fringe” section pinned into place with alligator clip.
Step Two:
Take out the “fringe” section of your hair, and divide this into three sections. Start with one section on either side, do not start from the middle, as this will make step three a little more difficult, pin the other two off to the side with a hair clip or alligator clip.
Be sure to brush this section.

Step Three:
Divide this first section into two smaller sections through the middle horizontally, with each of these apply a little hair spray and roll them up into a small sized hot curlers, making sure they’re quite warm before doing this, as you need these curls to be quite tight. Apply this to each of the three section, and leave to set for 5-15 minutes, depending on how long your curlers take to cool.
Other sections have been pinned out of the way, and the first section has now been split into two.
Each smaller section is rolled up into a hot roller.
Using your hot roller clips to hold the hot roller in place.
Apply to each large section, using a total of 6 rollers.
Step Four:
Take out all hot rollers now that they’ve cooled, as I have longer hair, I’ve then folded this entire section back, and pinned across this, where my finger is pointed in the second reference photo.
Take out all hot rollers.
Fold these all pack, and use hair pins horizontally where I’m pointing to hold this in place.
Step five:
I then fold this section back to flowing forward, then pin each curl into the desired placement, you can make this style as poofy as you like by teasing the back of these curls. To finish this style, spray a little hair spray to set this, and smooth any stray hairs.
Fold this section forward again.
Pin each curl into your desired placement.
