Sunday Pinup Tip: Vintage Tunes

Hello lovelies!

For my pinup tips I’ve posted quite a bit on beauty and fashion, so I thought its about time I focus in on the lifestyle component of pinup, with this blog looking at music for pinup girls and all vintage lovers! You may be new to pinup, or maybe you’ve not listened to much of the music style from this era, but I’m sure there’s something for everyone! A few key genres from the 1940’s/50’s include blues, swing, jazz, big band, rockabilly, rock ’n’ roll, country, and soul just to name a few.
Radio Stations:
If I don’t have my phone connected to my car while driving along, I’ll be listening to one of my favourite radio stations that play music from the golden age of glamour. Most stations that feature this style of music have their target audience as senior citizens (if you listen to the advert you’ll understand what I mean), but it doesn’t mean people of all ages can’t enjoy them too! The stations I love to listen to include Capitol Radio 101.7FM and Curtin Radio 100.1FM, which as well as having great music, also play radio serials!

Vintage Music:
There are so many ways we can access music today we have youtube, online radio stations, iTunes Radio, music website, iTunes store, torrents, CD/record stores, and so much more. Before purchasing your new music collection I recommend doing research into what kind of music you like the best, whether looking up artists on youtube, or tuning into your vintage radio station. There are many classic true vintage artist I’d definitely recommend including Elvis, Etta James, Glenn Miller, Peggy Lee, and Billie Holiday just to name a few of my favourites!
Modern Vintage Music:
As well as having true vintage artists, there are many modern bands and artist who today emulate music that would have been heard back in 40’s and 50’s. A few of my favourites include Postmodern Jukebox, The Baseballs, Imelda May, Bart & Baker, and Devil Doll just to name a few.
Support Local Musicians:
In Perth we’re lucky to have quite a few local musicians who are still keeping the style we all love so much alive, and like anything else, if we want the industry to thrive we need to support this. I’m very lucky to be a part of a blues and swing night at Soho Bar and Kitchen which is happening every Friday and Saturday with musicians such as the Sugartown Two, and burlesque performances by yours truly!

More vintage vlogs and blogs coming soon!

Much love,

Great post Lady Lace and I couldn’t agree more about your last point, it’s amazing how many local musicians in any town are still keeping the style 🙂
